The moment worth pausing on
Two Meta Quest headsets sit on the radar, both labelled Confirmed — and the headline counter still reads 0 capture-capable devices · field is quiet. That is the app declining to alarm on hardware that is not eyewear. The detail panel spells out why: “Other scanners flag sleeping Quests as ‘smart glasses’ — this signature exists to stop that.” A competing app in this category was widely reported alarming on exactly this.
The same panel publishes the raw evidence for every alert — matched rule, advertised name, company ID, services, first-heard timestamp — and closes with the line we hold ourselves to: “Broadcasts can be spoofed by hobbyist hardware — treat detections as advisory, not proof.”

The problem, in numbers
You used to be able to see the camera. Someone raised a phone, and you knew — consent worked because capture was visible. Now the camera is a pair of Wayfarers and the only signal is an indicator LED that a sticker defeats.
What the app does
- 27 device signatures across six classes — Meta/Oakley/Snap glasses, GoPro/DJI/Insta360 cameras, AI recorder pendants (Plaud, Limitless), plus audio-only and display-only glasses labelled as lesser risks.
- Evidence behind every alert — each detection is graded confirmed / probable / possible and opens to the raw radio data: advertised name, manufacturer ID verified against the Bluetooth SIG registry, service UUIDs, and the exact rule that matched.
- Meta Quest headsets are classified, not alarmed — they share manufacturer IDs with Meta's glasses, so naive scanners report a sleeping headset as "smart glasses nearby." Counterlens files them as "VR — not glasses."
- Live capture state for GoPro-class cameras — the Open GoPro advertisement carries an encoder-busy bit, surfaced as "active capture likely."
- 60-second Room Sweep producing a shareable report, Sentry Mode for doorways in studios/clinics/gyms, and hot/cold Locate with haptics.
Screens
What it deliberately does not claim
It cannot tell you that you are being recorded. It detects that capture-capable hardware is nearby, with a confidence grade — nothing more.
Worn glasses often go silent. Once a pair is paired and connected to its owner's phone, it may stop broadcasting entirely. Detection is opportunistic — strongest at power-on, pairing and case-open. The app states this in onboarding rather than implying constant protection.
Advertisements can be spoofed. Hobbyist hardware can imitate any of these signatures, so detections are advisory, never proof.
It identifies devices, never people.
